Allow me to introduce myself.

I’m Angela.

☀️ A Florida girl consumed with wanderlust. I dream of city skylines and rooftop views, exploring new places, eating new foods and I’m a total sucker for those eclectic thrift store vibes.

☀️A (single) mom to two of the most incredible little humans. My tiny activists, social justice courses through their veins. Raising mindful boys is perhaps my most important assignment in this lifetime.

☀️An avid DIYer. I tore down and rebuilt my entire house with my own two hands. And my beloved power tools. And my dad. And my down-for-anything sister. And all the YouTube videos. And a LOT of blood, sweat and tears!

☀️A writer/bloggess. A storyteller. An open book. We can heal our shame when we share our stories in safe places. I am safe.

I used to cry every single day. For the first 5 y

I used to cry every single day.

For the first 5 years following my divorce, my ex husband lived 2 hours away from us. He saw the kids every other weekend which only gave me a few days of parenting help and I had to drive over an hour each way to meet him.

For two years, I went back to school because when we split, I had no job, no money, no education. When my youngest son was born 2 weeks early, I had to take final exams in between breast feeding sessions while my dad sat in the car with the baby for hours and hours until I was done.

After graduation I landed what I thought was my dream job at the best clinic in Florida (one of the best in the country) but the work environment was toxic. I sat in that parking lot and cried every single morning before I went in to battle and left feeling defeated every single afternoon.

We lived in a tiny little townhouse that was too small for us and surrounded by grumpy old neighbors who didn’t want us. My commute was topping out at 3 hours per day with 2 stops at 2 different schools each way. I had to drag my kids out of bed before sunrise and they were often the last ones to be picked up from extended day as I came racing into the parking lot at 5:59pm.

I was overwhelmed, exhausted, depressed and I thought I was doomed to spend the rest of my life living that nightmare over and over and over again until one day, I picked up a book called #spiritjunkie and I finally understood that there is a better way of living.

I started to consume books, lectures and meditations on the topics of mindset and manifestation, I invested money I didn’t have to attend retreats and seminars, I made my growth and spiritual practices a priority over everything and step by step, I began to create the life I’m living today.

I’m here to tell you that if you’re struggling, doubtful, lost, there is a better way. You are worthy and capable of living a life beyond your wildest dreams. In the beginning, I used #mantra to train my brain to think better thoughts and it was the baby step that got me off of rock bottom.

I took this photo on our worst vacation ever.

It was so bad, you’d think I made it up (or at least embellished.) Here, we had already received a $70 parking ticket, had the rental car window smashed, paid $250 to fix it & had my purse stolen.

Hours before this photo, I had a complete meltdown in a CVS drugstore while my kids camped out on the floor reading magazines & eating snacks I couldn’t pay for because my ONLY credit card that was safe on #applepay had been flagged for fraud.

Then, I shit you not, on the way here, a rock hit the windshield & cracked it all the way across.

I cried again when the hotel told me I couldn’t check in without an id, which I didn’t have because it was stolen.

So when we finally made it to the beach, it was a true celebration. No matter how far I travel, #lajolla is just one of those places that feels like “home” & after all the misadventures, this moment melted them away.

Fast forward 3 days when we landed in FL after a very long, very cold redeye flight to a hurricane that was due to hit us in less than 2 days & found a note on my doorstep from the guy I had been seeing that said he had to go back to Korea because of a hiccup with his visa- yet another COVID side effect.

But this moment is one that I anchored into so deeply that I can still return to. I can close my eyes & hear the crashing waves, smell the salty air, feel the cool breeze blowing across my skin, sneaking in through the holes in my granny knit sweater. I can hear my kids running from the incoming tide & feel my toes in the sand.

The practice of gratitude is recognizing these moments, even if they’re buried between horrible, terrible, no good rotten BS & holding on to them. When you anchor in to that feeling, you’ll be able to access it any time you need it & by tapping in to that vibration, you have the power to change your reality in an instant.

Try it. Place your hand over your heart. Feel it beating. Know that you are alive. Breathe deeply. Go back to a moment that filled you with joy. See it. Feel it. Surrender. Allow yourself to be consumed with gratitude for the gift that was given to you. And when you’re ready, return to this moment with joy.

Confession: I’m having a hard time right now.

For the last 6 months, I’ve been so stuck in survival mode that I never really let myself break down. I never let myself mourn all the things this year could have/should have been but isn’t & now that I’m finally coming out of that initial phase, I have found myself deep in grief.

I’m finally grieving the time lost with loved ones, trips that didn’t happen, plans that fell through & all the little things that made my life so incredible pre-Corona, the life I worked so damn hard to create after my divorce & that I designed & manifested for myself. Then last night after 4 straight days of rain trapped me inside with the kids & nothing to distract us but #hulu & house projects, I had a mini breakdown & I finally let myself feel it all.

I felt like I was being suffocated. Not like good suffocated when you’re in a bear hug but like I need to book a flight so bad it hurts & this small town is killing me kind of suffocated & the more I felt into it, the more sadness came so I let it...

I miss people so much! I miss crowds & getting lost in them. I miss happy hour with my friends. I miss conversations about everything & nothing. I miss passing around tacos like they’re joints & double dipping in #guacamole. I miss awkward kisses at the end of the night. I miss strangers. I miss falling asleep next to someone (that may or may not be a stranger.)

I miss brunch & unlimited mimosas. I miss sitting in a coffee shop with headphones on for hours. I miss wandering around a city for an entire day with no plans & no destination, just letting life find me & stumbling in to the most epic adventures. I miss catching flights not feelings & now all that’s left are my big dumb feelings & I can’t run away from them cuz I’m stuck here & Corona ruined everything!

And you know what? I’m not ready to work on it yet. Not ready to heal yet. For now, I’m just in it & I’m ok with that, taking what comes & allowing myself to feel it. I’m not rushing the process & you don’t have to either. You don’t have to suck it up or get over it. If you’re in it, allow the feelings to come. Know that you’re not alone & we’ll get through this together.
